Washington Square Bookshop, New York
A long-standing fixture of New York’s bohemian Greenwich Village, it was run for over sixty years by the influential literary power couple, Chase Horton [1897-1985] and his wife, Josephine Bell Horton [1888-1967]. In the 1920s and early 1930s, under Josephine Bell Horton’s direction, it became an important centre for both the publication and distribution of pictorial maps. The Bookshop copyrighted the pictorial maps of both Ilonka Karasz and Everett Henry and published an edition of Charles Vernon Farrow’s superb 1926 Map of Manhattan
